Case Studies -- Automation Application on Telecommunication Industry

With the development of technology, digital device manufacturers launch their new products quicker and the adoption rates of smartphones and tablets are increasing. Smartphones have penetrated every aspect of daily life in modern society. It’s a great opportunity for digital device accessories manufacturers as their have a broad group of potential customers. Their only challenge is continuously produce their best products for the customers.

Since the competition to grab the digital devices market share becomes more intense, the design of the smartphones has become more complicated. All those innovated edge dual screen, rounded corner, curved metal frame designs are meant to surprise and attract customers. Besides, all those surface requirements such as highlight, fine milling, matte-finished have brought greater difficulty to production process. Similarly, for smartphone accessories, customers also demand higher-end products.

A listed company in Shenzhen, which is a global tooling & molding solution provider for injection molds and structural parts has started to cooperate with Shini Automation since end of 2015. They purchased 19 full servo driven robots from Shini. These robots are mainly use to take-out smart phone cover case and for insert-loading application of tablet back cover. The company mainly produce these smartphone cover cases and tablet back cover to supply them to Apple, Huawei and other branded telecommunication company.

For the project of take-out cover case, the requirement on the product surface is extremely critical. The mold itself is highlighted surface, slightly scratching on it will leave the mark on it. Moreover, due to the cover case specialized design, the mold cannot eject the product which cause a big challenge for robot to take out the product  without scratching the mold and the products. However, we managed to take-out the cover case without leaving any mark on the mold and the products. Our customer is very satisfied with our solution.

For the project of insert-loading tablet back-cover, the robot needs to insert a metal sheet into the mold first then take out the finished product after injection. Difficulties in this case is how to insert the metal sheet accurately and achieve automation production. Shini provided the customer a 4-stations feeding metal sheet solution. It’s only required to fill up all 4 stations with metal sheet on certain time period, robot can pickup the metal sheet automatically then insert it into mold.

Shini full servo driven robots can be divided to single-arm and double-arm; single-stage arm and telescopic-arm for selection. They are suitable for 2-plate mold, 3-plate mold and hot-runner system. Capable of arranging, stacking, quality checking, insert-loading and other applications. It’s suitable for injection molding machine under 3600T clamp force.
